Caring for your temple is an important part of Christian life. God calls us to not just care for our spiritual being, but to care for our physical being as well (this is very logical, for how can a caregiver give the best care, if he/she is not functioning properly? (see my prior article on Prioritizing YOU for more details). While it is possible to take physical care to an unhealthy extreme, the vast majority of women are not in danger of being too fit or having too healthy skin! To the contrary, in the United States, skin cancer levels are terribly high and many physical maladies, like heart disease and diabetes are at near all-time highs.
In efforts to enable young women to avoid many dangerous skin (and spiritual) problems as adults, I was blessed to have the opportunity to write the following article for Texas Teen Model Official Magazine this year….
Beautiful Skin Comes From Within (aka 10 Secrets to Gorgeous Skin, in TTMO)
Fashion and radiant healthy skin go hand in hand! As a fashion enthusiast through my teen years, followed by several years as an international model (including Paris, Milano, New York, and Tokyo), skin care had to be on the top of my priority list. Though I took a break to have my family (we have 6 children), I am now modeling again (the same size I was before), largely due to my fantastic skin. While I cannot possibly tell you all the helpful tricks and regiments I’ve found and followed in a single article, I can definitely give you the absolute essentials!
The first thing to understand is that the biggest impact on your skin comes from deep within yourself. Yes, if you want that beautiful skin you see on television and in magazines, the primary source of that is not going to be finding the perfect cosmetics product. Almost all of those products really do exactly what they claim to do (when you follow their directions fully). But, here’s the catch:
Before cosmetics products have any chance of really significantly helping you, you’ll need to make sure you are taking care of your skin from the inside out! How? Follow these 7 essential DO’s and 3 big DON’Ts. They will help you achieve beauty down deep, that will radiate to your skin, and allow those amazing product to really do what they claim!

Let’s look at those DO’s!
1. DO Maximize Happiness through Peace!
Peace and happiness really make your skin healthy!? Yes! And it’s not only recent research that supports it! Even thousands of years ago people already knew that the condition of the inner person has a direct effect on outward appearance. Ancient Hebrew texts declare, “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance”. The condition of our heart has a direct impact on the condition of our face! Famous actress, Audrey Hepburn, is widely known for stating, “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are not alone”. These examples are speaking of inner spiritual peace making a real difference on the condition of your face. Inner happiness through spiritual peace is the most important piece of the puzzle in finding and maintaining healthy skin, from age 5-105!
2. DO ….

For now, I encourage you to spend your time focusing on the first, and most important element to great skin: Spiritual Peace! The way to achieve Spiritual Peace is simple… line your life up with God’s plan for your life!
- List and enact your plan to conquer any sins you have the hardest time resisting.
- Forgive those who need forgiving (everyone), and…
- Genuinely apologize and ask for forgiveness from those you have sinned against.
Then, you can move forward with the life God has planned for you, unshackled.
